Week 10 at Loveland RV Resort

Hey folks - it’s time for another (mostly) coherent update on life in the slow lane, RV edition. Week 10 has been one of the more unexpectedly entertaining ones so far, so strap in (or loosen your belt buckle - your choice).
Reunion at Maxline (and me making a fool of myself)
One of the biggest highlights was getting to see an old friend - someone who used to do my hair and fronted one of our longtime favorite Northern Colorado bands, 69 Times - now rocking with her new group, the Joy Jackson Band. And where else but Maxline Brewing in Fort Collins (which hosts live music outside in good weather).
I’ll be honest: when she asked me to come up and sing a song, my internal monologue was going full panic mode. She offered “I Hate Myself for Loving You” (Joan Jett). Yes, I was wildly underprepared (forgot some lyrics, forgot to warm up, forgot that public humiliation is a thing - thanks beer). But much to everyone’s surprise (perhaps even mine), it was fun. I stumbled a bit, but she was kind, the band played behind me, and the crowd cheered (or at least clapped politely).
And the beer? Yum. Maxline has a solid lineup: their Flagships and rotating seasonals keep things interesting. Check out my Untapped ratings for proof!
Sunday bikes, art, & a lake detour
Our usual Sunday bike-ride crew was off camping (traitors… I mean, lucky ducks). So, Darren and I set out on a two-wheeled adventure of our own. Instead of our standard route, we decided to add a little flair: we looped around Lake Loveland, cruising past sparkling water views and winding through the adjoining neighborhoods where we may or may not have scoped out a few “dream houses.” (Don’t worry, Betty the truck and our Brinkley still hold the keys to our hearts.)
From there, we pedaled our way to Loveland’s Art in the Park, weaving among rows of tents packed with creative energy. Painters, sculptors, jewelers, and photographers were all showing off their masterpieces. We strolled, admired, chatted, and picked up a piece or two to remind us that our RV décor can be more than duct tape and command hooks.
Dinner, a movie, & finally Ferris
We had Logan over for dinner (homemade, because we’re fancy) and decided it was finally time to fill in a giant pop-culture hole in his life: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Believe it or not, he had never seen it - despite the fact that his entire family has been quoting it around him his whole life. (“Bueller… Bueller…”)
Watching his first-time reactions was priceless. Every time a classic line landed, Darren and I were already laughing, while Logan gave us the side-eye like, “Ohhh, so that’s what you people have been talking about all these years.” Needless to say, he’s now officially fluent in Ferris.

KD & the Painkillers Reunion Tour Continuation
Speaking of music - KD & the Painkillers had another super fun gig at Island Grill this week. And since I’m the “K” in the name, I can officially say: it feels so good to be back on stage with these guys again.
For the past several weeks, we’ve been calling these shows our “reunion gigs,” and that’s exactly what they feel like - a mix of nostalgia, laughter, and a whole lot of jam-packed fun. Singing with my bandmates again has been a reminder of why I fell in love with performing in the first place. The harmonies locked in, the solos soared, and the inside jokes flew faster than the servers carrying trays of Painkillers.
The crowd at Island Grill was fantastic - dancing, clapping, singing along, and egging us on for “just one more song.” (Spoiler alert: there’s always one more song.) It’s the kind of audience that makes you forget you’re watching the clock and instead just want to keep the party going.
Only two more shows left at IG before we roll on down the road, so I’m soaking up every song, every cheer, and every off-mic joke from the gang. These nights are going to stick with me long after the amps are packed up.
That’s a wrap on week 10 - and honestly, it reminded me why this RV life works so well for us. Between unexpected reunions (on stage and off), surprise detours on our bikes, and cozy nights introducing our kiddo to Jack Ryan, it’s been the kind of week that feels both ordinary and unforgettable at the same time. Music keeps reconnecting us to old friends, biking keeps us exploring, and these cooler Loveland nights are reminding us that our time here is ticking down.
Two more Island Grill shows, a few more adventures, and then we’ll be back on the road chasing that sweet spot of 78°.
Cheers!
