Last Hurrah at Splash RV Resort — Christmas Lights, Seafood, Slides & Truck Stop Nights!

Well friends, week nine at Splash RV Resort in Milton, CO — and our final week of this leg of the journey — was packed with cozy vibes, tasty eats, Christmas sparkle, RV drama, and even a spontaneous night in a truck stop parking lot. So, pour yourself something strong (may I recommend a vodka-infused apple cider? 🍏🍸), and let’s dive in!
Monday Magic: Cards & Cider with Janet & Don
We kicked off our last week in true Splash fashion — gametime! Janet and Don joined us at the clubhouse for another round of cards, but this time with festive adult beverages: caramel vodka + apple cider = holiday cheer in a cup 🥃✨. Let’s just say cards were played, laughter was shared, and someone (not naming names) may have blamed their losses on the cider…

Mild Weather + Twinkling RV Christmas Lights
Colorado gifted us some warm weather mid-week, so we hopped on our bikes and pedaled around Splash to check out all the incredible RV Christmas light displays. Santa would’ve been jealous of some of these rigs!
The mild air and cheerful lights made for perfect evening joyrides — just the kind of memory we’ll tuck into our hearts (and our blog) forever.
Midweek Adventures: Where Y’at Seafood + Christmas Cottages
Lunchtime rolled around and we introduced Janet and Don to one of our Milton favorites: Where Y’at Seafood and Market in Navarre — a local gem serving up fresh Gulf Coast flavors. Between the four of us we basically ordered the entire menu (no regrets), and it was fantastic — gumbo, shrimp, boudin, po’boys, sides — the works! If you’re ever around, don’t miss this place.
Later, a leisurely stroll around the RV park turned into an impromptu tour of some adorably decorated Christmas Cottages. These tiny holiday houses were next-level cute — twinkling lights, wreaths, snowmen — but holy smokes, the price tag was not on the nice list. Still, we enjoyed the peek inside!
That evening, we all headed into town again to walk along the river, soak up even more Christmas décor, and indulge in all the festive feels.
Then Darren and I cruised some "well-lit" neighborhoods on the way home. I love this time of year!
Friday Fiasco: RV Slide Won’t Budge!
Ahhh yes, departure day — and of course, the one day our RV decides to throw a wrench in the works! We planned to leave early to make it to our next Harvest Host stop at Bernal Homestead in Live Oak, FL, before dark.
But nope — our bedroom slide refused to retract. [queue ominous music here - haha!]
Don and Janet swung by to see us off, and of course, Don jumped right into troubleshooting mode with Darren. They tried everything, short of hitting it with a magic wand. Meanwhile, I was in full tangled emotions mode — frustration, dread, web searching, even bargaining with the universe.
Luckily, Don had shared great things about Mike at Patriot 360 RV Services & Inspections (locals swear by him), so we gave him a shout. He arrived about an hour later than we’d hoped to depart — but within a bit of pro tinkering, that stubborn slide finally clicked back in. We tested it a few more times (safety first 💪) and finally hit the road.
The Great Harvest Host Miss & The Busy Bee Bonanza
Here’s where things went off the rails (in the most 2025 RV travel way possible). Because of the slide delay, we couldn’t make it to Bernal Homestead before dark — a requirement for staying at the Harvest Host. Soooooo we improvised and parked for the night at Busy Bee Truck Stop in Live Oak, FL.
Think mini Buc-ee’s vibes — bright lights, lots of trucks, big parking spaces, and one totally satisfying Burger King dinner. We were SO tired, and still riding the stress wave from the morning, so we skipped putting out the slides, ate at BK, and reveled in the simplicity of greasy goodness. They even had TVs in the restaurant, so after dinner I retreated back to the RV to read while Darren stayed behind to watch sportsball — truly a win-win!
Sleeping in a truck stop parking lot? Let’s just say it was cold, loud, and bright — not exactly the Ritz, but hey — SAFE! That counts for a lot these days.
Morning After: Busy Bee Breakfast & Onward!
We woke up, hit up Busy Bee for some much-needed breakfast and coffee refills, and then finally pointed the rig toward Wekiva Falls RV Resort in Sorrento, FL. Next stop: new adventures, fewer stuck slides, and hopefully fewer truck stop sleepovers.
Thanks for following along on our last week at Splash RV Resort — it was a mix of cozy memories, hilarious hiccups, and full-belly laughs. Stay tuned because the road is calling!
Cheers!
