Week 4 at Splash RV Resort: Chili, Karaoke Courage & Poolside Shenanigans

November 2025: If Week 4 at Splash RV Resort had a theme, it would be “sunshine-powered socializing with a side of chaos.” The weather showed off, the pool became our second living room, and somehow, we sang our way through yet another weekend. Let’s rewind.

Before we dive into pool days, karaoke bravery, and chili-fueled victories, let’s talk about something new I’ve added to my daily routine…

Bass Lines, YouTube & Fingertip Survival

Somewhere between bike rides and tiki drinks, I decided this was the perfect time to teach myself how to play bass guitar (thanks for the loaner, Eric!). Armed with a YouTube instructor and questionable confidence, I’ve been practicing regularly—and yes, I’m officially in the “building callouses” phase. My fingertips are tender, my notes are inconsistent, but progress is progress. One day soon, I’ll sound intentional.

Puerto Rico Envy, Courtesy of Cory & Nikki

Cory and his girlfriend Nikki made it back from Puerto Rico after celebrating her graduation in serious island style. They sent us stunning photos of turquoise water, jungle adventures, and the kind of views that make you immediately question all your life choices.

Bikes, Christmas Lights & a Hawk with Attitude

With the weather being downright smug about how perfect it was, we hopped on our bikes for another ride around the area—this time hunting for Christmas decorations. Bonus wildlife moment: we spotted a hawk perched dramatically at the very top of a tree, clearly judging all of us.

Pool Days = Best Days

When we weren’t pedaling around town, we were at the pool. Splash’s pool area is basically a social magnet—sunny, relaxed, and full of great people. We’ve officially met some really fun folks, and “just stopping by the pool” continues to turn into hours-long hangouts.

Several mornings even included water aerobics, which sounds gentle until you realize your legs are working way harder than expected. After that? We “ran” the non-heated lazy river 🥶, which is exactly what it sounds like—power walking against the current while laughing and questioning our life choices. Refreshing, humbling, and oddly fun.

Tiki Drinks, Beer Flights & Firepit Friends

Another gorgeous day led us straight to the Splash tiki hut after pool time, where we sampled some very interesting drinks. Verdict: delicious and potentially dangerous.

Later, we brought everyone back to our site for beer sampling and firepit time. As photographic evidence will show, DeeDee and Bones Malone became extremely close friends by the end of the night.

Friday Night Karaoke: Judds Edition

Friday night meant karaoke—and somehow DeeDee convinced me to sing The Judds with her. Let me be clear: this was a stretch for me. If you know, you KNOW. Still, the crowd was forgiving, the vibe was fun, and no one threw anything. Success.

Chili Glory, Wagon Wonders & Live Music

Saturday came in HOT—literally and figuratively.

Splash Chili Cookoff Results:

  • Only 4 entries (including our BBQ Brisket Chili)

  • 3 staff judges

  • About 20 campers sampling

  • 🥇 DeeDee won Best Overall

  • 🏆 We won Fan Favorite = $50 toward Splash swag + a purple Splash embroidered apron (fashion icon status achieved)

Covered Wagon Tour

We also toured the Covered Wagon accommodations at Splash, and they are adorable. These one-room wagons include bunk space, a queen-size bed, a sitting area, a kitchenette, plus a full outdoor kitchen, a giant firepit area, and a separate shower/bathroom.

They’re located just outside the pool area and border a giant teepee that’s perfect for hanging out—or letting kids burn off energy while adults pretend they’re supervising.

Live Music: Highway 98 (Round Two…ish)

The band Highway 98 played that evening, and once again I was invited to sing. I tackled “I Will Survive”, which nearly derailed at the start because my brain insisted on the Cake/KDPK tempo. Rough beginning…strong finish.

Then the band casually mentioned that a video of me singing with them last time got the most engagement of any post on their Facebook page. So naturally, they had me sing “Rock & Roll” by Led Zeppelin again—and this time it was even better than last week. Redemption arc complete.

Sunday Night Music Bingo

We wrapped up the week with Music Bingo alongside Janet, Don, DeeDee, and Jim. Darren and I…did not shine. But DeeDee won the final round, because of course she did.

Another week down, and Splash continues to deliver sunshine, surprises, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. Onward to Week 5…

Cheers!
