Shamrocks, Snack Runs & Slightly Angry Seas

The second half of our stay at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach came in hot… and by hot, I mean equal parts festive, productive, slightly chaotic, and deliciously overfed.

St. Patrick’s Day: Bikes, Beers & Bargain Hunting

Saturday rolled in wearing green, and we were ready to match the energy. We hopped on the bikes and pedaled our way (24 miles round trip) to Grand Strand Brewing Company, where live music from Suavacado set the tone for some proper St. Paddy’s Day shenanigans. Good vibes, cold beer, and a crowd that clearly understood the assignment.

From there, we traded pints for RVs and cruised over to the Myrtle Beach RV Show – because nothing says “holiday celebration” like checking out other people’s campers while standing in yours 90% of the time.

Naturally, we followed that up with another brewery stop at New South Brewing (hydration is important, okay?) before rounding out the day with a truly gourmet experience at Costco. Yes, friends – the legendary $1.50 hotdog and soda combo. Fine dining at its finest.

The Errand Olympics

Apparently, we don’t rest – even on Sundays. Back on the bikes we went, this time for a practical adventure: mini-fridge reconnaissance.

First stop: Walmart for price checking (because we are now those people). Then over to Aldi for groceries, where we exercised extreme restraint… or at least tried to.

We wrapped up the ride, cruising through Ocean Lakes Campground, checking out the beach houses – some adorable, some massive, all making us casually rethink our life choices.

Rain, Wind & Responsible Adulting (Ugh)

Early in the week, Mother Nature decided to humble us with a full day of rain and strong winds. The kind where your camper gently rocks, and you start questioning all your life decisions.

So… we did the unthinkable: we adulted. Taxes. Paperwork. Responsible things.

Once the skies eased up, Darren escaped on a bike ride, and I wandered down to the beach. Let me tell you – the ocean was in a mood. The waves were crashing like they had a personal beef with humanity, and the sky looked like it was auditioning for a dramatic movie scene.

Mini-Fridge Drama & Crab Leg Therapy

Since our back porch mini-fridge decided it was more of a “room temperature suggestion box” than an actual appliance, we had a little talk with our camper manufacturer, Brinkley RV. After chatting for a bit, they stepped up in a big way and offered us money toward a replacement – even though we’re out of warranty.

Seriously… who does that?! Brinkley, that’s who. We can’t say enough good things about them.

We attempted to find a replacement, but when nothing fit our needs or budget, we made the only logical decision: abandon the mission and go eat our feelings at Crabby Mike’s Calabash Seafood Company.

And ohhhhhh boy – crab legs for days. We left so full we considered rolling ourselves back to the truck.

Bones Malone: Local Celebrity

Meanwhile, our buddy Bones Malone (still faithfully holding down the picnic table) became an unexpected superstar. We’re talking 30–40 people stopping by for photo ops throughout our stay.

At one point, a group of employees dressed like leprechauns came over for pictures with him, which honestly felt like a crossover event we didn’t know we needed.

Bones: 1

Everyone else: also 1, because joy was had all around.

Sneak Peek Car Show & Mini-Fridge Victory Lap

Even though the official car show wasn’t kicking off until after we left, the early arrivals were already rolling into the park – classic cars, polished chrome, and plenty of eye candy to slow our bike ride to a crawl.

But the real win? We finally tracked down a replacement mini-fridge for the back porch (cue the hallelujah chorus). After what felt like an Olympic-level shopping event earlier in the week, we got it installed and back in business – cold drinks were officially restored to their rightful place in our lives.

And in a plot twist we did not expect, the campground swooped in and hauled away our sad, retired mini-fridge for free. No wrestling it into the truck, no awkward “what do we do with this thing now?” moment – just gone. Like it never even tried to betray us.

We wrapped it all up with one last cruise around Ocean Lakes, snapping pics of the cars and soaking in those final campground vibes.

On the Road Again…

Before we knew it, Thursday rolled around and it was time to pack it all up, say goodbye to the beach, and hit the road ready to see where our next adventure would take us.

Cheers!

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Chasing78Life is a blog that was created to document our journey of living full-time in an RV and the adventures that come with it while chasing 78 degrees. We are a couple of empty nesters who decided to retire early and hit the road. We are new to the RV life and don’t have a ton of experience, but we are passionate about life and travel.

Through this blog, we want to share our experiences, tips and tricks as we travel around the US. We hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams and make the most of life.
