October 2025: Well, we made it! Our first week back at Splash RV Resort in Milton, FL, and let me tell you… October here is not for the faint of heart. These folks take Halloween more seriously than Kroger takes BOGO sales. The whole campground is basically a festive, over-caffeinated Spirit Halloween, and we are so here for it.
Pedaling Down Memory Lane
Since we spent a chilly stretch here back in January, we hopped on our bikes to take a spin through the East Milton neighborhoods. We wanted to see what had changed - new houses, new fences, maybe a new friendly feral cat or two.
Spoiler: a lot changes when you're not looking. East Milton is growing! More homes, more construction, and definitely more people wondering why two strangers on e-bikes were pedaling by 17 times. (Research, folks. It's research.)
Farewell, Lavender Lady
We finally posted both of our Lectric XP 2.0 Lite folding e-bikes on Facebook Marketplace. Between our upgrades to the beefy Lectric XP 4.0 and our growing desire to stop hauling gear we don’t use, it was time.
My lavender bike sold in two days. TWO.I should be thrilled… and yet, watching her ride away with her new owner? I swear I heard tiny violin music. She served me well. RIP to a real one.
Decorating Al Brinkley (aka our camper)
Splash does Halloween like it’s their full-time job. Entire sections of the RV park look like Disney’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party collided with a Home Depot seasonal aisle. There are contests for best site, best golf cart, best costume - basically, if you can put a pumpkin on it, it’s part of a competition.
Naturally, we decorated Al Brinkley with enough Halloween cheer to make him blush. Lights, bats, a pumpkin, a skeleton, the whole thing. I think he likes it. He hasn’t complained once.
Karaoke Courage
Then came karaoke.
Was there talent? Yes!
Was there… not talent? Also yes!
Did I consider singing? Absolutely yes. In a campground full of strangers? That’s basically the perfect laboratory for testing out new songs. No pressure, no judgment - just me, a mic, and a crowd that had already consumed a heroic amount of Jell-O shots and Capri Sun cocktails.
I belted out a couple of tunes, got some whoops and applause, and honestly? It felt great. Karaoke is way more fun when nobody knows you well enough to remember your mistakes. Highly recommend.
Early Trick-or-Treating
Splash hosted trick-or-treating a week early, and the turnout was fantastic. Kids in costumes everywhere, parents in camping chairs, teenagers pretending they weren’t into it but absolutely into it… it was peak Halloween campground magic.
Live Music
Saturday night featured live music from a band called Goodbye, August. They’re an anthemic rock outfit - described as mixing emo, alt-rock, and post-hardcore influences – although their sets at Splash were primarily Yacht Rock.
They were a 4-piece band: drums, 2 guitars, and bass. One of the guitar players was the primary singer and also played the saxophone. The sax was a great add to their sound.
Bottom line: their performance was raw, heartfelt, and totally hit the campground’s post-parade, post-pumpkin-spice energy just right.
Birthday Boy vs. The Wilderness
My favorite human turned a year awesomer! We kept it simple (click here for surprise BD party post), festive, and very snack-filled - exactly his style.

And because nothing says “Happy Birthday!” quite like manual labor, Darren spent part of his big day tackling the overgrown, sandy, trash-strewn path we bike on to get into Milton.
Armed with gloves, determination, and the kind of stubbornness only a Scorpio can channel, he cleared sand, dug out ground cover, and hauled out debris until he literally worked blisters into his hands.
Was it glamorous? No.
Was it satisfying? Absolutely.
Did he insist he was “just doing a little cleanup”? Yes - while looking like he’d just finished auditioning for Alone: RV Resort Edition.
But thanks to him, the path is actually rideable again… and he earned extra birthday snacks for his efforts.
Breaking News about Italy
Somewhere between a spooky clown and a toddler dressed as a taco, we got the sweetest update: Our middle son, Devan, and his girlfriend, Miranda, got engaged while in Florence, Italy! We cheered, we cried, we sent emojis. Perfect birthday bonus.
That’s Week One!
Splash RV Resort kicked off October with bikes, birthdays, boo's, and enough Halloween spirit to power a small town. Buckle up - we’ve got one more week of this spooky goodness.
Cheers!
