Florida, We Have Arrived!
January 2025: Well, folks, after months of chasing that perfect 78° life, we finally landed in Florida for the first time on this grand adventure! First stop: Splash RV Resort in Milton, FL, where we were promised sunshine, relaxation, and an overabundance of golf carts. Seriously, I think golf carts outnumber actual vehicles here. But hey, when in Florida...

We chose Splash RV Resort as our home base because of its primo location - just a short drive to Pensacola Beach and, more importantly, a quick hop over to Navarre, where our friends Jeremy and Tracey recently relocated from Colorado. Because when your friends move to paradise, the only logical response is to crash their new life immediately.
We’ll be sharing several blog posts from Splash, as we called this park home from 1/6/25-2/5/25. So, buckle up for a month’s worth of Florida fun, unexpected adventures, and possibly an excessive number of golf cart references!
🎉 A Virtual Reunion with the Old Work Crew 🎉
Before fully diving into Florida life, I got a surprise invitation to join my old work gang via Zoom for their annual holiday party/dinner/game night on January 2nd. While they were gathering in person, I joined from the comfort of my RV, proving once and for all that you can wear pajama pants to a corporate event if you position your camera just right. It was great to catch up, laugh at the latest office shenanigans, and flex my trivia skills - though I think my brain has officially switched from “work mode” to “which beach bar has the best rum punch?” mode.
🎶 Rocking Out… With a Few Substitutions 🎶
Nothing says "vacation" like assembling a makeshift band! Last year our drummer, Barry, was on the injured reserve list thanks to an ill-advised attempt to conquer the Colorado ski slopes (spoiler: the slopes won). Luckily, Jeremy (see mention above) stepped in to keep the beat for KD & the Painkillers. Since our good friends Drake and Christy flew in from Colorado this week to join the fun - Drake being the D in KD & the Painkillers and all - we had planned to line up some “unplugged” gigs in the area.
Did we land any high-profile beach gigs? Nope. But did we absolutely DOMINATE a night of karaoke at the resort clubhouse? You bet your flip-flops we did. And later in the week, we kept things intimate with a quiet guitar sing-along at the clubhouse - just Drake and me, some tunes, and a handful of confused-but-appreciative onlookers.
🏖 Pensacola Beach Adventures 🏖
Another fun adventure to note - Drake had been invited to an annual surfer celebration in Pensacola, so obviously, we tagged along to see what all the fuss was about. This led to us rocking out to a very loud live classic rock band at a beachside bar, strolling the quiet boardwalk like we totally belonged there, and wondering if we should just give in and buy matching Puka shell necklaces. (We did not. Maybe next time.)
Meanwhile, we balanced our beachy outings with some good old-fashioned indoor sports - aka basketball and charcuterie at Drake and Christy’s beachfront condo. I’ll let you guess which activity I excelled at.
And then, of course, there was the Denver Broncos playoff game. We had high hopes. We had snacks. We had team spirit. And then… well… let’s just say that if heartbreak had a color, it would be orange and blue. But at least we suffered together.
What’s Next?
Our first week in Florida was filled with music, friends, and an unreasonable amount of cheese and crackers. But just when we thought we would be heading towards that perfect 78° bliss… Mother Nature had other plans. Stay tuned for next week’s episode of Will Our RV Survive Florida’s Mood Swings?!
Until then…
Cheers!
