Week 6 at Wekiva Falls: Cold Snaps, Cheap Eats, and Questionable Football Outcomes

Life at Wekiva Falls Resort continues to prove that RV life is basically a rotating schedule of adventure, snacks, and occasional poor life choices involving football teams. Week six delivered all three in generous quantities.
Sunday: Football Hopes… and Emotional Damage
We kicked off the week at Dan and Stacey’s house with burgers sizzling, drinks flowing, and our hopes riding high for the Denver Broncos as they faced the New England Patriots.
Even with our starting quarterback sidelined, we were optimistic. Encouraged, even. Possibly overly confident.
The burgers were fantastic.
The company was excellent.
The Broncos… were not.
Let’s just say the evening ended with less celebrating and more muttering at the television.
Monday: The Football Hangover (Not the Fun Kind)
The day after the game, karma arrived in the form of a killer headache. While Darren responsibly went out for a bike ride like a healthy adult.
I heroically stayed in bed binge-watching Veronica Mars.
Honestly? Zero regrets.
Tuesday: PT, Groceries, and the World’s Most Thorough Food Sniffing Tour
No headache! Hallelujah!
After another round of shoulder PT, we hit the road for Altamonte Springs with a mission: return an Amazon package at the massive Whole Foods Market.
Now, if you’ve ever been inside a giant Whole Foods, you know it’s less of a grocery store and more of a food museum.
We toured everything:
Hot buffet
Cold buffet
Soup station
Bakery
Pizza counter
Cheese department (hello beloved goat cheese)
Olive and pickled veggie bar
We stirred things.
We sniffed things.
We debated buying things.
But in the end, our cheap side won.
Instead of Whole (Paycheck) Foods prices, we headed to the culinary landmark known as Costco Wholesale.
Lunch consisted of:
Darren: the legendary $1.50 hot dog and soda combo
Me: turkey pesto sandwich + soda
Shared: chocolate caramel brownie shake
Here in Florida, the café seating is outside. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to audition for Chicago that day. It was cold and windy, but we were hungry and committed to our budget-friendly feast.
After lunch we did our shopping and, of course, conducted a thorough free sample inspection program.
Surprise Brewery Stop
On the way back home, we remembered a brewery we’d passed earlier and decided it would be irresponsible not to investigate.
Enter Three Odd Guys Brewing.
Despite being completely stuffed from Costco, there is always room for a beer flight. The beertender was incredibly sweet, and since we were the only people there, we ended up chatting with her the entire time.
Small brewery, good beer, great conversation — our favorite combo.

Pit Stop at Casa Dan & Stacey
Before we got home we swung by Dan & Stacey’s to:
retrieve the dishes we’d left Sunday night
refill our water jugs
Their houseguest (and goddaughter) Justine was there, and during conversation she shared some intel that turned into a very exciting early birthday surprise for me.
Stay tuned…
Midweek: Bikes, Blogs, and Productivity (Sort Of)
Midweek started with some blog writing before we hopped on the bikes for a 15-mile ride through a gorgeous nearby neighborhood. Clear skies, temps hovering around 60 degrees — basically perfect riding weather.
Back home:
Darren tackled the black hole that was his email inbox (progress!!)
I built a giant salad and finished polishing up the blog.
Look at us being productive adults.
Thursday Night: Secret Speakeasy Shenanigans
That evening we met Dan and Stacey in Lake Mary at the very cool Crown Alley – Grafton Street Pub.
This place used to be an old chain restaurant, but it’s been completely transformed into an Irish-style pub plus a hidden speakeasy.
And how do you enter the speakeasy?
Through an English red phone booth, of course.
Inside was moody lighting, craft cocktails, and the general feeling that we might be part of something slightly illegal but very fun.
Dinner, drinks, and then… more drinks.
Friday: I Did a Thing
Remember Justine?
Turns out she has amazing tattoos and recommended her local artist. A few messages later and suddenly I had an appointment with Mason (@the.sun.reaper).
Four hours later…
I had a brand-new cover-up tattoo.
Mason did the outline, shading, and even started the first bit of color. It already looks incredible, and we scheduled the finishing session once everything heals.
So excited to see the final result.
And although Friday and Saturday nights were normally karaoke nights at the Wekiva Falls Tiki Bar… not this week.
It was simply too cooooolllldd.
Saturday: Retreat to Casa Dan-o & Stacey-o
With the temperatures dropping again, we abandoned the RV and sought refuge at Casa Dan & Stacey for an overnight hang.

Stacey made scratch-made split pea soup (so good), and we brought Sub Pub sandwiches and chips from Publix.
Dan mixed up some delicious adult beverages while Stacey refreshed my manicure like the multi-talented hero she is.
Then we wrapped up the night watching the Oscar-winning film CODA.
And yes…I cried. A lot.
Excellent movie though.
Final Thoughts from Week 6
This week had a little bit of everything:
football heartbreak
food adventures
brewery discoveries
speakeasy cocktails
a brand-new tattoo
and a cozy movie night with friends
RV life may not always go exactly as planned, but it always manages to stay interesting.
And honestly… that’s half the fun.
Cheers!
