February 2025: Week 3 at Wekiva Falls Resort was another unforgettable chapter in our journey. Between spending time with our dear friends, Dan and Stacey, witnessing some pretty exciting family milestones, and indulging in local festivities, this week was packed with laughter, love, and, of course, a little bit of chaos.
Filling Up Water Jugs... A Lot
Let’s talk water. The drinking water at Wekiva Falls? Well, let’s just say it was distinctly flavored by the nearby sulphur springs. The kind of taste that makes you question your life choices. So, whenever we’d head near Dan and Stacey’s, we’d make a pit stop at their place to fill up our water jugs. We made this our unofficial multi-day ritual - pretty sure we could’ve turned it into a competition to see who could carry the most jugs without spilling any.

Baby Scarlett – The Tiny Sunshine
And then there was baby Scarlett (Dan and Stacey’s newest grandchild). I mean, can you ever get enough of her adorable little face? We spent as much time with her as possible, and the photos to prove it are numerous. From all her fantastic hair to the tiniest little hands gripping our fingers, we couldn’t get enough. Honestly, I think we might have created a mini photo album for her already!
A Big Moment for Cory – Sergeant Promotion!
We had a huge moment this week when our eldest son, Cory, was promoted to Sergeant at the Winter Park/Frasier, Colorado police department. We couldn’t be prouder! And the best part? We got to witness the whole thing over Zoom from the comfort of Dan and Stacey’s house. Watching that town hall meeting and ceremony was a bit surreal, but it was so heartwarming to be able to celebrate Cory from afar. It was a proud parent moment for sure.
A Birthday to Remember
As if watching Cory’s promotion wasn’t special enough, that night also happened to be my birthday! Dan and Stacey, being the amazing friends they are, made sure I got the full birthday treatment at their house. Spending the evening with them, celebrating both my big day and Cory’s huge achievement, was one of the best gifts I could have asked for.
And let’s talk about that chocolate birthday cake. Chef’s kiss. It was rich, delicious, and the perfect way to wrap up an already unforgettable day. I don’t know if chocolate makes everything better or if Dan and Stacey just have a knack for making birthdays feel extra special—but either way, I felt incredibly loved and lucky.
Friday Night Karaoke – No Ramon, No Problem!
Another Friday night at Wekiva Falls meant one thing - karaoke with the local crew! Now, I’ll admit, I felt a little naked without my new sidekick, Ramon, but I powered through (he was missed!). Turns out, even without my “secret weapon”, the crowd still appreciated my vocal contributions. Maybe it was the fact that a few drinks tend to lower the bar for audience expectations - either way, I had a blast!
Speaking of drinks, some of our fellow singers discovered an interesting phenomenon: the more they drank, the better they thought they sounded. Confidence levels soared, pitch control? Eh… let’s just say enthusiasm made up for any creative key changes. But that’s the magic of karaoke - nobody cares how good you are, as long as you’re having fun. And fun was definitely had by all!

Sanford Porchfest – 8th Annual Celebration!
We also made it to the Sanford Porchfest again this year, the 8th annual one, and it was just as awesome as last time! This event, which has become a favorite of ours, takes place in downtown Sanford, FL, and features local bands performing on porches all over the historic neighborhood. It’s like a giant, free music festival but way more intimate. The vibe is fantastic, the music is great, and it’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We even discovered a couple of new bands we can’t wait to see again.
Helping Move Baby Scarlett’s Parents (And Falling in Love with Their Condo)
Speaking of family, we also helped baby Scarlett’s parents move into their new place at Yardley Crossings in DeLand, FL. And let me tell you, this condo was so cool, it made us seriously consider downsizing and moving there ourselves! It had a beautiful open floor plan, a lovely patio, and the kind of charm that made us feel like we could just stay there forever. I don’t know about you, but the idea of a little Florida patio home is starting to sound pretty appealing.
Wrapping Up Week 3
From baby snuggles to big family moments, Week 3 at Wekiva Falls was a whirlwind of fun and memorable events. We’ve got our jugs of water, memories to last a lifetime, and an ever-growing appreciation for the people and places we’re encountering along the way. It’s moments like these that make our travels so special.
Cheers!
