June 2024: Well, folks, we finally did it—we loaded up our shiny new RV and hit the road for its maiden voyage. Where did we go, you ask? Ovid, Colorado via Cabella’s Full Service Campground in Sidney, Nebraska!
For those of you who don’t already know, I sing in a cover band that travels to the little gem of a town, Ovid, Colorado for their annual Ovid Days event every year. To make this year even more epic, we brought along our best friends to camp out with us along the way. They in their vintage camper van and us in our Brinkley RV. What better way to break in an RV than by rocking out with friends in tow?
We brought our electric bikes with us to better able to navigate the quaint town of Sidney. We explored the downtown area and enjoyed a beer or two at Boss City Brewing. Yummmm! We even got to speak with the owners of the local bike shop downtown at Peddler’s Corner. Who knew this little town of 6,500 had such a bustling bike and beer community!

Then on to Ovid for our performance and overnight stay. Although the day started out rainy and overcast, they were still able to host a softball tournament, a 5k run, a parade, goat roping, a beer garden, food trucks, and us – KD & the Painkillers!

I’d like to say the night went off without a hitch…however; due to the inclement weather and us newbie RVer’s, we almost ran out of power while parked downtown. After the show and tear down of equipment, we found we had just enough juice to pull in the slides and raise the jacks. We loaded up in the morning and made it back to the lake house ready to get back to shore power again!
Needless to say, we now own a generator.
So, here's to many more RV adventures and (hopefully) smoother experiences next time.
