Horses, Hops & Hilltop Hiccups: Our Week in Georgetown, KY

April 2025: Let me tell you a tale of Whispering Hills RV Park, where the hills are alive with the sounds of... well, mostly silence and the occasional koi gulping fish pellets. Nestled just outside of Georgetown, KY, this stop was a mix of charm, character, and “do you think we’ll make it up this road?” moments.
The Arrival: A Game of Inches
Pulling into Whispering Hills felt a little like threading a needle - with a 40' fifth wheel. The road to the park was narrow, the kind that makes you wonder if you missed a turn and are now on someone’s private goat path. But no goats, just a cozy park tucked into the hills, where time seems to move slower - and thankfully, so do the neighboring RVs.

The Park Vibes: Vintage but Lovable
Let’s call it like it is - Whispering Hills has been around for a bit. The bathhouses were definitely giving “your grandma’s basement bathroom,” but props for being super clean and individual. No communal awkwardness here!
We were bummed the pool was closed (the weather screamed “splash,” but the pool said “closed for the season”), but hey, the koi pond near the office tried to make up for it. There’s a little vending machine where you can feed the fish - possibly the most action-packed entertainment of the week if you're over 80.

And speaking of kiddos, the park was surprisingly equipped with three bounce houses and a playground! We refrained from bouncing (barely), but enjoyed the sounds of kids mid-air while sipping brews like the RV-grownups we are.
The lake, complete with a fountain and an island you can’t get to, made for a great backdrop for evening strolls and pretending we were fancy.
Scenery That Slaps (Peacefully)
The countryside around Georgetown is pure magic. Rolling green hills, pristine black fences, and majestic horses. It’s like someone put the Kentucky Horse Park and a Thomas Kinkade painting in a blender and poured it out along every roadside.
But the surprise MVP? The low stone walls zigzagging through fields. We half-expected a sheepdog to pop out and demand a Guinness. These walls look like they belong in the Irish countryside - but instead of sheep, they had horses who probably have better healthcare than we do.
Horsing Around at the Kentucky Horse Park
We cruised the famous Kentucky Horse Park where horses aren’t just animals - they’re royalty. We watched as they prepped for an upcoming dressage event (think horse ballet) and possibly a fancy Derby Day party. Even the horses looked like they had somewhere important to be.
But here's the hidden gem: Kentucky Horse Park Campground. We discovered it on our bike ride (thank you, Legacy Trail!) and instantly knew this spot is going on the must-stay list for next time. The campground is spacious, tucked away just enough to be quiet, and best of all—connected to the trail system we’d already fallen in love with. Imagine rolling out of bed and biking straight to horse-world magic. Yes, please.
It’s a rare combo: peaceful RV park, nature all around, and literal thoroughbreds within walking distance. Next trip, we’re hitching up there for sure.
Bikes, Brews & Bonus Ice Cream
Our e-bikes got some well-earned miles on the Legacy Trail, a scenic, paved path that makes you feel like a Tour de Kentucky champion. We also explored neighborhoods around Sixth Street Brewing, rewarded our noble pedaling efforts with lunch and a cold one. #EarnYourBeer
Later, we explored the Distillery District, which is as cool as it sounds. First stop: Ethereal Brewing for some creative and hazy hops. Then, we accidentally on purpose made our way to Crank & Boom Ice Cream, where the Bourbon & Honey ice cream may or may not have changed our lives.
And because we’re classy like that, we ended the night at Sláinte Public House, a welcoming little Irish pub with just the right mix of Guinness, local chatter, and the faint smell of shepherd’s pie dreams.
Breakfast with the Masters (and the Mini Masters)
One of our favorite mornings was breakfast with Collin & Rachel Masters and their adorable littles, Casey and Annin. Collin is the son of our longtime friends Dan & Stacey back in Lake Mary, FL (remember them from our earlier posts?). It was heartwarming to catch up over eggs and baby giggles.
Final Thoughts from the Hilltop
Whispering Hills might not be the fanciest park in the land, but it’s got heart - and hills. It was quiet, clean, and a great home base to explore the best of Central Kentucky. Between horses, hops, hills, and sweet little stone walls, Georgetown was an unexpected delight.
Until next time…
Cheers!
